5.0 out of 5 stars New packaging makes these Snow Floats work better, November 14, 2010
This review is from: Mountain Boy Sledworks Kicksled Snow Floats (Sports)
I had a problem with the Snow Floats I bought from Mountain Boy last winter (one stayed on with no problem, the other kept falling off), and they cheerfully replaced them with this year's model. They explained that by curling them in the box differently, they were able to stop the problem.

Snow Floats are perfect when you want to either 1) push your kicksled across pavement and patches of spotty snow, or 2) go on something that's less than hard-packed, like a snowmobile trail. Keep in mind that if your feet are sinking into the snow then it's still going to be work to push the kicksled forward.

These arrived coiled too tightly and I needed tools to get one of them on the sled even though they are supposed to slide on. Make sure you leave them in a warm place for HOURS before you try to put them on the sled otherwise they will twist up.

Once I got them on my sled, they worked great! My dog loved trying to knock me off by pulling the sled up the snowbanks without it getting stuck at the bottom. I liked being able to glide around the fields. It definitely beats being confined to ice and packed snow!

I got my snow floats with the harness and brake package and that's the most cost efficient way to purchase them. The brake pad has been marginally worth it as it generally just drags in the snow and creates a drift of snow in front of it. The harness is wonderful if it fits your dog. And it fits my 60lb lab just fine.

The snow floats I left in the box for two winters because we didn't get either snow at all, or we got ice and I didn't need them. This winter it dumped 6" of fresh powder all over my neighborhood so I dug them out. Leaving them in the box for two years was a minor mistake as I had to use a hair dryer to warm them up enough to unroll them. And they aren't fully flat even a week later after I've zip tied them to the sled. But I fully expect them to relax eventually.

One snow float went on easily and stayed there. The other kept popping off even before I tried sledding. So I added the extra zip tie on the front to lace the one they give you to the rail... Read more
